Disclosures, Designation Policy and Notices

United Way of Brevard County, Inc DBA United Way Space Coast. (FIN: 590-83-6384) is a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible.  A copy of our official registration (#CH14) and financial information may be obtained from the FL Division of Consumer Services by calling 800-435-7352 or by visiting http://www.800helpfla.com.   Registration does not imply endorsement, approval, or recommendation by the State. If for whatever reason you should require a refund of your donation, you must contact our office within 90 days of the date your donation was made. We value your privacy!  All information collected from you is used for internal purposes only and will NOT be disclosed or sold to a third party.

Designation Policy The following only applies to gifts processed by the United Way Space Coast (UWSC)
Making a gift to UWSC’s Community Care Fund is the most effective way to help people in need of human care services across Brevard. We understand, however, that some donors wish to direct all or a portion of their gift to a specific agency. Although we process these donor-directed contributions as a service to our donors, UWSC is unable to guarantee how designated funds to a specific agency will be used, or ensure measurable results by the recipient agency.

How to give
There are four ways in which a donor can give through the United Way:
Unrestricted Gift
Community Care Fund designation
Targeted Care designation :Education, Health, Financial Stability, Mission United
Specific Agency designation: If you wish to make a designation to a specific organization, the following is required:

The agency must be a legally recognized 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization providing health or human care service
The agency must be in good standing with the IRS and pass GuideStar's Charity Check's screening service.
Due to costs associated with processing and forwarding designated gifts, the minimum amount designated to each agency must be at least $130.00.
Designations not meeting these requirements will be directed to our Unrestricted/Community Care Fund.

Agency Payments and Acknowledgments
Designations made to our Partner Agencies are sent over and above Community Care Fund program funding provided by UWSC through our Annual Community Impact Process. Designations through pledges of payroll deduction are paid to agencies quarterly beginning in April. Gifts paid in full by cash, check, credit card or stock gift are distributed to designated agencies in the first designation payout each year. Donor name and gift details are forwarded to designated agencies ONLY if the donor specifically releases UWSC to share that information and provides us with detailed donor information (including donor’s home or personal email address) by checking the request acknowledgement box on their pledge form.

UWSC will attempt to notify donors $500 and above with a designation to an invalid (known non 501 C3) agency by contacting the ECM and/or donor directly to explain the designation policy.  If the donor/ECM has not responded within two weeks the designation will default to undesignated. If the donor/ECM contacts us before the allocation process deadline the designation may be changed. Failure of the designated agency to complete to pass GuideStar's Charity Checky or to accept payment will result in late or non payment of designated funds. The donor will not be notified of this occurrence. These designated funds default to the undesignated and are at the discretion of UWSC.

Designation Fees
UWSC collects fees from each designation to cover the costs of fundraising, collecting, processing and distributing these donations. Please find our cost recovery fees below. Additionally, UWB can only distribute dollars that are actually collected. Therefore, payroll gifts will be paid to the designated agency based on the total percentage collected from the donor’s workplace campaign. United Way is given a lump sum from employers versus individual checks and thus is unable to know specifically which payroll pledges are unfulfilled. Based on prior experience, UWSC approximates seven percent of all payroll deduction pledges will not be fulfilled. However, the payment rates vary significantly from workplace to workplace.

Cost Recovery Schedule
Designation fees are calculated every campaign year based off of the previous year’s results. All agencies are subject to the same fee unless otherwise agreed to by the UWSCPresident. Designation fees are capped at $75 per donor.
